Euphemistic Writing by Carrie Kimble

As my parents arrived at our house, I immediately knew they would jump to conclusions right when they walked in the door. To avoid confrontation between my parents, sister and I, I had to get myself collected to make a calm explanation.

Hey Mom! Hey Dad! Don't freak out. I can explain everything in complete reason and detail. What really happened was that my dear sister, Lily, and I were watching Captain Kangaroo, and I had to change the channel because even though it's a rated parental guidance T.V. show, the main character, who kids look up to, was smoking a cigarette. I didn't want Lily watching a bad example, and I certainly didn't want her to think smoking was right. It would be terrible if she started lighting up with a group of kids who smoke every Thursday in the back alley of school. To refrain from all those possible mishaps, I took the liberty of turning the channel to protect my little sister, whom I can't get enough of. Although when I was trying to proceed with the good deed, I couldn't seem to find the remote anywhere in sight. So as my last resort in protecting my sister's innocence, I found a handy pillow that would work great in shielding her eyes. As I put the pillow in front of her vision, a couple of feathers from the pillow escaped and tickled her nose, causing her to release a big, loud sneeze. It was such a big sneeze that she nearly jumped out of her chair, accidentally kicking one of her soccer cleats off. After saying, "Bless you!" to her, I grabbed a tissue for her. In my act of reaching for the tissue on the T.V. stand, she sneezed again and bumped right on top of me. As we both fell onto the floor, everything shook. We slowly watched the lamp become lopsided and unbalanced. I tried to take a steady hold of the lamp, but my attempt in so doing failed. Because of my failure, the T.V. screen is now shattered, thanks to the lamp I tried to catch.

The irony in this is that now Lily actually can't watch that corrupt T.V. show anymore.
